Abstract
Many service discovery protocols (SDP) have been proposed and implemented to allow automatic discovery of devices and network services offered on a computer network. Service discovery is becoming more and more important with the growth in the size and the diversity of computer networks. However, existing service discovery protocols do not interact with each other. In this thesis, a SDP software framework is developed to support heterogeneous devices (PC, sensor, and mobile devices), different platforms (Windows, JVM, and Android) and different wireless networks (Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.15.4). We also use Markov Chain to represent service's dynamic attributes to reduce communication for resource-constrained devices.
