Description

Case study 1: Developing Collaborative Scholarship via a Digital Initiatives Lab - Reagan Grimsley details the rationale behind the lab, its uses, and the challenges experienced so far. Case study 2: Four Years of Minecraft as an Outreach Initiative - Doug Bolden runs a Minecraft server, and related Discord server, as a place for students to gather, create, have fun, and (surprisingly often) argue. He'll discuss balancing rules vs. freedom, learning to alter plans and visions, tackling unexpected challenges, dealing with trolls and other threats, and finding new spaces for students to be themselves. Case study 3: The Library Website Assignment: The UX Class vs. The Salmon Library - Michael Manasco and Doug Bolden have worked with a professor to use the Salmon Library website as a subject for a semester-long user experience design project. They share the value of feedback, handling of expectations, balancing workload, and challenging students' conceptions of what an academic library (and its website) can do.
